closing of the bones

closing the bones

I have also been trained and given permission by renowned traditional Mexican midwife Naolἰ Vinaver in the Closing of the Bones ritual. This lineage comes the traditional midwives of Mexico and is called ‘Cerrar la Cadera’ or a ‘Cerrada’ which translates from Spanish to ‘Closing of the Hips’ or ‘A Closing’.

This is held after the first 40 days is complete to close the birth portal, acknowledge the rite of passage that has taken place and witness the emergence of a Mother. It’s intention is to also support expelling any cold in the body, shift any energy that not longer serves and hold the mother lovingly as she integrates this life altering journey.

A ceremonial container with an altar, birth story debriefing, cacao, massage, Mexican herbal bath, sweat, wrapping with traditional rebozos, shamanic drumming, and a sweet treat at the end to close the space together.

The Closing of the Bones can be held directly after the first 40 days is complete or even years down the line for any mother feeling that the time is right to close the portal, honour the journey they’ve been on or support any lingering pieces that need witnessing, love and a closing.

This ritual is 4 – 5 hours and is facilitated by 2 beautiful doulas; myself and another sister.
